The Paralegal is a key player in the Humana Law Department. The role involves collection of information and documents from multiple sources throughout the company as well as keeping track of the status of multiple cases. Responsibilities include:
* Provides assistance with regulatory matters in connection with, but not limited to, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid Managed Care, Long-Term Care, Individual and Group Commercial Products, and Governmental Bids, and Provider contracts.

  • Regular interaction with various Company business segments and operational departments including network management, policy, compliance, claims, underwriting and sales.

  • Review Company insurance policies, contracts, operational department policies and procedures, letters and communications and provide comments and recommended revisions.

  • Draft legal health care-related documents.

  • Work with Humana Law Department attorneys and outside counsel on projects

  • Assist in review of insurance claims handling process, department of insurance inquiries, member complaints.

  • Corporate projects as assigned.

    Role Essentials

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to resolve issues.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proven organizational skills, as well as flexibility, and adaptability to complete multi-tasks within designated time frames and adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent research and writing skills.

  • Project management and leadership.

  • Strong PC Skills - Microsoft Office, Adobe and Lexis/Nexis. Roles Desirables

  • 3 plus years of corporate law or compliance department or law firm paralegal experience required, preferably with experience in medical or Medicare/Medicaid insurance.

  • With supervision from the assigned attorney, review and analyze a broad range of agreements, amendments, non-disclosure agreements and related documents.

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks.

  • Bilingual-Spanish/English a plus.

    Reporting Relationships

  • You will report to the Assistant General Counsel. This area is under the leadership of the SVP & Chief General Counsel.
