The Senior Vendor Management Professional works as liaison between vendors and organization. The Senior Vendor Management Professional work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.


The Senior Vendor Management Professional reviews and negotiates terms of vendor contracts and communicates with vendors to regarding day-to-day matters. Builds and maintains positive relationship with vendors and monitor vendor performance. Researches invoice and contractual issues and resolve discrepancies. Begins to influence department’s strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

  • Fostering strong working relationships with diverse cohort of internal business process owners and external vendors to create viable solutions and processes that meet business needs (including clinical audit, code editing, data mining, subrogation, and special investigations)

  • Identifying vendors capable of delivering solutions that meet business needs

  • Bringing together stakeholders to evaluate viability of vendors’ services

  • Asking meaningful, relevant, and inquisitive questions focused on determining value of a vendor relationship

  • Coordinating with Humana’s shared services operations (e.g., Risk, Legal, Compliance, etc.) to screen new vendors and secure approval for new programs

  • Working closely with Humana’s Purchasing Departments to ensure vendor due diligence and security concerns are properly addressed

  • Analyzing competing proposals, create cost benefit analyses, prepare executive summaries, and make actionable recommendations

  • Helping to design proof of concepts to evaluate vendor value

  • Negotiating and drafting contract statements of work, including pricing, terms, and conditions, that meet business objectives

  • Providing guidance for onboarding and deploying new vendors and programs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related fields

  • Minimum of two years’ experience with contract management, drafting, or similar

  • Minimum of two years’ experience with business process outsourcing (BPO)

  • Customer service mindset: strong interpersonal skills with all levels of leadership

  • Negotiation expertise: experience in complex and parallel negotiations

  • Financial acumen: experience conducting financial research and analyzing historical spend to identify potential savings opportunities

  • Demonstrated capacity to manage competing priorities

  • Excellent ability to solve problems that require analytical reasoning, creative thinking, comfort with numbers, and ability to untangle complex issues

  • Takes initiative and is eager to pioneer new frontiers

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate or Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related fields

  • Two years of Project Management or similar experience

  • Experience working with healthcare vendors, including soliciting and evaluating proposals

  • Experience working in Claims Cost Management or similar department

  • Previous consulting experience
